March Madness

The tournament starts early for Good Librations. Like the NCAA, this will be a single elimination battle. However, as much as we would love to make this a 68 contestant battle, we don’t have the time or shelf space.

Now… let’s take a look at our Elite Eight contestants and their first round matchups:

Submitted Adam Lowe

“Alternating its present-day mystery with the story of the sisters’ childhood and adolescence, Long Bright River is at once heart-pounding and heart-wrenching: a gripping suspense novel that is also a moving story of sisters, addiction, and the formidable ties that persist between place, family, and fate.”

VS.

Submitted by David Dunkel

“A spare and devastating exploration of abuse at a reform school in Jim Crow-era Florida that is ultimately a powerful tale of human perseverance, dignity and redemption.”

Submitted by Matthew Mahoney

“Co-authored by the Chief White House correspondent at The New York Times and the Washington columnist at the The New Yorker, this is a biography any would-be power broker must own: the story of legendary White House chief of staff and secretary of state James A. Baker III, the man who ran Washington when Washington ran the world.”

VS.

Submitted by Jack Fischer

“An imaginative and intricate novel inspired by the horrors of World War II and written in short, elegant chapters that explore human nature and the contradictory power of technology.”

Submitted by Luke Janc

“Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup is written by John Carreyrou, the very Wall Street Journal reporter who first exposed Theranos. It covers all known history of how Theranos started, maintained its lies, and fell. The story is an incredible demonstration of the weaknesses of human psychology.”

VS.

Submitted by Troy Jensen

“American Kingpin is about the rise and fall of the Dread Pirate Roberts (DPR), the criminal head of the notorious, illicit online marketplace, the Silk Road, where drugs, guns, and even human body parts were available for sale anonymously.”

Submitted by Omar Simon

“In Deacon King Kong, McBride brings to vivid life the people affected by the shooting: the victim, the African-American and Latinx residents who witnessed it, the white neighbors, the local cops assigned to investigate, the members of the Five Ends Baptist Church where Sportcoat was deacon, the neighborhood’s Italian mobsters, and Sportcoat himself.”

VS.

Submitted by John Ekedahl

“The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.”

The first round will start next week with matchups on the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th. Keep an eye out for our Instagram polls and be sure to vote. We will keep the bracket updated as we go.

The Final Four will clash it out the following week, on the 15th and 16th.

And finally, on Wednesday, March 17th, we will post our championship event to decide the winner and selection for our April book.
