Not Too Shab-Bee

The Good Librations Book Club has been operating underground for almost two years now, which has come as a surprise to many that are familiar with our gregarious group. “At times, I feel like I’m living a double-life”, says Jack Fischer, one of the GLBC members. “You jump through one table at a crawfish boil, and all of a sudden you’re typecast into that role. When we started this club, it felt like a new light was let in.”

Speaking to Jack felt like I was having a conversation with myself. I too felt trapped in a self-indulgent lifestyle, chasing temporary highs followed by daunting episodes of guilt and shame. So in an effort to counterbalance (rather than replace) our vices, a group of us decided to start an unconventional book club that would embrace our lifestyles and help balance out our psyches.

Turns out we weren’t the only ones searching for cerebral rectification following a weekend of intoxication. This bond inspired the Good Librations Book Club to expand its footprint to social media to connect with more people in search of the same answers. To celebrate the launch of our Instagram and website, we will be hosting the first annual Good Librations Spelling Bee. Help us put the “hype” into hyperbole on Saturday, February 20th. Unlike the quintessential

spelling bee you might be picturing, this will not be a courteous and sobering event. In fact, a pitcher is worth a thousand words… Can you spell “Open Bar”? Whether you are a contestant or a spectator, you can belly up to the open bar and drink until you’re spelling words in Korean. When the clock hands stumble to 8pm and the wine-sedated suburban housewives close the doors on their book clubs, we will be opening ours.

Oh and one last thing.. Following the contest will be a live music performance that you won’t want to miss! We hope this union of scholastic tradition and our habitual social activities will be enough to juxtaposition you right in the middle of the Good Librations First Annual Spelling Bee.
